Grassi Museum, Leipzig

4.6
#5 of 16 in Museums in Leipzig
Grassi Museum welcomes visitors to the Ethnography Museum, the Musical Instruments Museum, and the Applied Arts Museum. Each has both permanent exhibits and alternating special exhibitions. Tour the Art Deco column hall, designed in shining red, gold, and blue, with its 12 ceiling-high columns. Walk through the inner courtyards, then check out the old Johannis cemetery. The permanent exhibition "From Ancient Times to Historism" covers more than 3,000 years of world art history. Many special exhibitions appear regularly throughout the year, such as the Grassi Trade Fair at the end of October. The onsite café is a nice resting spot between museums. • We have seen the Ethnology, as well as the part of musical instruments. In the latter, we were completely alone, what very surprised us. However, interestingly designed. Via the Ethnology I can say nothing bad except for the heat in the OG's, there were only 20 degrees out there. Everything else without defects. Definitely worth a visit!

  • I got an audio guide in English which is really good but some of the numbers on the exhibits were missing! As the museum was really quiet it sort of added to the fun trying to find the correct exibit ...  more »
  • The Grassi Museum is actually three individual museums with the subjects of ethnographic, musical instruments & applied arts. The ticket costs 8 euros with Leipzig card or 6 euro. If you visit more than one, there are discount, so for example the admission to two museums costs 12 euro or with Leipzig card 9 euro. Is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 to 18 h. We looked at the Ethnology Museum and musical instruments. Both are really interesting, where the musical instruments we liked best. Especially the ethnographic museum exhibits very many, where the exhibition frumpy is something interactive or modern elements complete absence. During our visit, only a few visitors were present, so we could look at the exhibition in peace and quiet. Overall, we spent 3-4 hours in the two museums.

  • Rather solitary museum, parking is non-existent, but once inside the complex, a certain peace and quiet in the middle of a busy corner is to be cherished. The Museum of Musical Instruments is awesome, great for kids as well.
  • very interesting, much to see
  • Worth a visit
  • Represents the collection of unique art, modern and inspiring presentation. Also, the diversity and informal depth of the exhibits in the field of Ethnology was convincing. Although not necessarily cheap, but the visit meets more than the entry.

  • A bit expensive entrance and little explanation. Place in English but better is not to rely on it.
