Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.6/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web
Steeped in history and offering unbeatable views of the city, Trausnitz Castle was built in the 13th century and once served as the official seat of the hereditary rulers of Bavaria. The castle is mostly noted for including the so-called "chamber of art and curiosities," a room that can best be described as the precursor of today's museums. The castle's renowned chamber contains works of arts, treasures from the Orient, and curiosities typical of the collections owned by rulers in the Renaissance era, such as small carvings of plum stones, stuffed animals, minerals, corals, and scientific instruments of the 15th century. Several of the castle's grand rooms can be booked for special events and are often used for conferences and concerts. Check online for opening times and available guided tours.
