Trausnitz Castle, Landshut

4.6
#3 of 44 in Historic Sites in Lower Bavaria
Castle Tourist Spot
Steeped in history and offering unbeatable views of the city, Trausnitz Castle was built in the 13th century and once served as the official seat of the hereditary rulers of Bavaria. The castle is mostly noted for including the so-called "chamber of art and curiosities," a room that can best be described as the precursor of today's museums. The castle's renowned chamber contains works of arts, treasures from the Orient, and curiosities typical of the collections owned by rulers in the Renaissance era, such as small carvings of plum stones, stuffed animals, minerals, corals, and scientific instruments of the 15th century. Several of the castle's grand rooms can be booked for special events and are often used for conferences and concerts. Check online for opening times and available guided tours. • A romantic castle in the classical sense. Walking its narrow passages and gateways it's easy to forget that you're in the 21st century. At the end of the walk it presents you a beautiful view of the charming city.
  • Went here and joined the guided tour. Although it was in German they provided an English translation sheet. They also provides an English booklet for the room of trinkets.
  • A wonderful view from the castle.
  • Great place (Burg) in the great town of Landshut
  • Fantastic place to visit! Terrible place to try and siege.
