Opel Zoo, Kronberg im Taunus

4.1
#2 of 52 in Outdoors in Hesse
A private zoo with resident animals that roam in relative freedom, Opel Zoo immerses you in the African plains. Join a guided tour, or purchase an individual ticket. (Keep your ticket handy in the off chance that security asks you to present it.) The zoo provides you with snacks so you can get up close and personal with the meerkats, camels, goats, and giraffes. The area is made up of the maze of large pens cut through with pathways. Animals wander through the pens freely, so it feels as if only a fence separates you from the Serengeti. Visit the cafe terrace that looks out over the elephant area so you can watch these noble creatures at play while you enjoy a cold beer. • The Opel Zoo is a Zoo and Wildlife Park and is located in the town of Kronberg im Taunus in Germany (a few kilometres from Frankfurt), founded in 1956 by Georg von Opel and covers an area of 27,000 square meters. The area is lovely, among the green hills of Konigstein and Kronberg, in the natural park of the upper Taunus, area rich in dense vegetation. Always busy, the ideal is to schedule a visit on weekdays and at weekends, advice, arrive at opening to avoid long waits for input. The Zoo is home to several animals, although fewer compared to similar facilities, but the rooms are meticulously maintained and comfortable for them. Great the enclosure that houses the elephants that have a chance to stay indoors and to splurge in the spacious outdoor area dedicated to them: the same applies to the giraffes that are housed in a huge space in companies of zebras. There are monkeys, alpaca, deer, camels and dromedaries, Arctic fox, antelopes, flamingos, Red Fox, Cheetah, wildebeest, parrots, deer, Hyena, an endless array of birds, the impala, cormorants, freshwater crocodile, the Mouflon, the ostrich, mink, fish including Red piranha, snakes including the Python , the pelicans, the panda, the turtles, the OWL and the OWL, the Porcupine, the Stork, the turtles, the Mongoose, the penguins, the Hippo and an endless array of goats, goats, donkeys and ponies and poi......ne will surely forget them other ...! Wide is the choice for catering and play areas for younger visitors. Two restaurants in particular: The Zambezi zoo restaurant with a large sun terrace just above the fence of the elephants and the Lodge restaurant, next to the main entrance. Here visitors to the restaurant they have a breathtaking view of the "African savannah" and can enjoy a kitchen of "level". In short, the ideal place to spend a day outdoors, strolling in the Park, surrounded by nature and exploring a lot of animals from all over the world: to the delight of children and, why not, also of adults.

  • The Opel Zoo in Crown mountain is a beautiful system, at least at first glance. The zoo itself is like all systems of this kind a little in the change. Fewer animals, for larger enclosures. The Africa facilities are particularly nice, the elephants have a great run. Other enclosures are, however, slightly small and well visible. Beautiful, it is also for children that can feed some of the animals with the carrots - which can be purchased at the Zoo. Well have I a small bit more expected by the Opel Zoo. Tickets are € 14 for adults already in the higher category. Therefore, I have fluctuated slightly between 3/4 points. But you must know that this Zoo receives no subsidies from the country. So about admission and donations (you cannot accept sponsorship for animals, by the way) funded. Therefore 4 points and a visit certainly once worth.

  • Great open zoo! The price was great for a family to visit. I enjoyed that there were open areas for the animals to roam and easy to spectate. The animals are very friendly and used to receiving food from the visitors. Bags of carrots are available for about €4.
  • Great day for all. The grill huts you can reserve are super. Very big play ground. A bit of an expense though at 14 euro per adult
  • It is a zoo, but an open air one where the animals have plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors. Still, some of the felines and monkeys were in crystal cages, that part I didn't like (I thought the animals were exlusively outdoors).
  • Huge zoo in the forest that is very well maintained. It has a very large selection of animals.
  • Small, privately held, zoo with a familiar athmosphere. Great for kids, huge petting zoo. Prices are a bit steep, but fair, considering the zoo isn't subsidized by the state or community. If you live close by, consider getting an annual ticket.
