Festung Koenigstein, Koenigstein
(4.4/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
One of the largest hilltop fortifications in Europe, Festung Koenigstein is an architecturally and historically significant building. During its more than 750 years, the fortification featured late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and 19th-century architecture. Its 50-odd buildings, some more than 400 years old, are testament to the civilian and military life of the fortress. For centuries, the structure was used as a state prison, but today it is home to an open-air museum that documents the history of the castle, with exhibitions on the old armory, the garrison church, the cellars, and the treasury. Plan your visit to Festung Koenigstein and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Koenigstein vacation route planner.

  • It is a medieval mini city! Very authentic looking during the Christmas fair (we visited 25 November). The only minus-renovated to a modern style, some buildings. Attend better in the morning, until forming the crowds. There are large comfortable parking.

  • beautiful fortress perched on a sandstone massif of the Saxon Switzerland Elbe, is accessed by a lift brand new, the view is splendid surroundings, we can do the fortress Tower taking his time, visit to the Museum is interesting, not to forget the store memory, there are also restaurants prized by the locals to spend good evenings or participate in good treats You can come down from this fortress walk through the main door

  • Everyone can appreciate the beauty of this place! We toured the entire fortress, from walking all the way down the ramp and back up (a workout - let me tell you), to the entire fortress walls, the views were amazing! They have a great selection of military weaponry, WWII artifacts, canons, and more. We were with a mixed group of Americans and Germans, and only two bilingual individuals, and we all had a great time!
  • Brunch, really tasty and high quality. Recommended. Here, keep it out. Great program and very nice people

  • Officer Casino: The food was not fresh and tasted accordingly also not more great. Fries were cold. My expectation was but not so high, because it is mass processing and lives the restaurant ladder. Service was always friendly. Prices are acceptable.

  • Excellent food, friendly service staff and grandiose views of the Königstein! Particularly, the events are recommended especially for Christmas celebrations with the whole company!
