Franz Marc Museum, Kochel am See

4.2
Dedicated to the work of German painter and printmaker Franz Marc, Franz Marc Museum features many of the masterpieces that made him a key figure in the German expressionist movement. The museum also displays works by Marc's contemporaries and other significant 20th-century artists. Refuel at the restaurant, which serves seasonal dishes and homemade cakes. We travelled from the UK to visit this museum. It's a lovely museum with some Franz Marc originals, although you may be disappointed if you expect there to be a lot of originals there (there are aroun...  more »

A visit to this museum is really worth. Wonderful location on the Kochelsee and currently there's the impressive collection titled "Blue land and noise of the city" until October 2017 to look Braglia. Very unpleasant, we felt the staff, especially the Lady at the "reception": very unfriendly, harsh tone, Curt, very unwilling, to give only a source of information. A course in "Good behavior" would do really well! This reception ruined really the museum visit us, even though the collection is recommended. Fortunately, this was our only negative encounter in the blue country. That's why a star deduction.

Located on the Lake, a path leads to a small museum devoted to German painters of the expressionist movement, a lot of black and dark but interesting painting in its way of presenting the characters. Some beautiful works of the Blaue Reiter highlighted with care. Two floors to admire works from the first half of the twentieth, the visit is to be completed by the modern Pinakothek of Munich.

  • Definitely worth visiting. Have been there twice on rainy days but enjoyed it both times. The audio guide makes it much more interesting. Found great gifts at the shop. We were there for about two and a half hours. The view of the lake is spectacular.
  • An exquisite jewel of a museum: in tribute to Germany's most accessible expressionist and accomplished colorist.
  • Interesting for someone who likes turn-of-the-art. Unfortunately, is not the most interesting images. Next to the restaurant/bar. Prices as elsewhere. Small car park near the pretty Lake.

  • Some back and forth, but beautiful pictures. Life and work of Franz Marc is not very worked up. Best picture: donkey frieze carrier is the Franz Marc and the Stan gel Foundation. So many other works.
