  • On the site of today's Jesuit church, a Cistercian Nunnery was founded in 1242. On the site of the present Church Gothic building. 1580, Archbishop of Trier Jakob von Eltz had forcibly transferred the nuns on the island Niederwerth. Jesuits should take over the buildings. With the establishment of this community of clerics, Archbishop of Trier wanted to strengthen the Counter-Reformation. The Cistercian buildings were taken over. They destroyed the Gothic church up on the chorus and built between 1613 and 1617 a new Church modelled on the Jesuit church of St. Peter in Münster. The old Jesuit church was a six pilings pillar Basilica with nave galleries, a West Gallery, as well as magnificent Stremgewölben. The Gothic choir of the 1254 begun predecessor Church completed that to the East. A study of this conversion are interested in certainly not only architects, enjoy the tour. After the dissolution of the Jesuit order in 1773, the church became a subsidiary of St. Castor.
