Schloss Stolzenfels, Koblenz

4.2
Originally constructed in 1259 and perched above the Rhine River, Schloss Stolzenfels is a classic castle in a fairytale setting. The fortress' ornate architecture is the result of several iterations and reconstructions over the past eight centuries. The neo-Gothic-style towers and battlements were intended to represent an archetypal medieval structure. Hike your way up a winding, sign-posted path to the castle's seat, and explore both the grounds and the luxurious interior through a guided tour. Don't miss the sweeping view of the surrounding valley and city of Koblenz. • This castle has been restored around the years 1840, thanks in part to the later King of Germany by the Prussian Empire, beautiful castle. Please note! Castle is easy to reach but a bit unclear indicated how you got there, we thought more times the lock was already closed, but that it was not, so also on the Hill you can take the wrong way up, at the first climb, turn right at the second building walk through and halfway through one can further omhoogklimmen. When we went back we have walked along the Church/Chapel, the Church itself was closed but on the one side is a cemetery newly decorated with recent burial places, on the other side is also a cemetery that already almost or about 100 years old, where there are also a lot of people are buried, possibly also of the ww1, this is a bit overgrown with plants but is also interesting to look at.

  • I just love this place. The location and architecture are definitely something really special. This Neo-Gothic castle is one of the most amazing "Rheinromantik" buildings. You can clearly see the distinct style and signature of one of the most important architects of the early 1800 Friedrich August Stüler. Definitely worth a trip!
  • Great architecture along the strech of Rhine River.
  • Lots of history, great tour and an amazing view
  • Beautiful castle with some lovely views. Small fee to get into the grounds and that includes a walking tour. The tour is obviously in German, but they provide a translation booklet. Couple of areas are off limits, which is a shame.
  • Amazing castle just 10 min away from the city...
