Laboe Naval Memorial (Marine-Ehrenmal), Kiel

(4.6/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Laboe Naval Memorial (Marine-Ehrenmal) originally was a memorial to the fallen members of the Kaiserliche Marine during World War I. After World War II, it was converted into an internationally accepted peace monument. Today, it commemorates all sailors of every nationality who died during the World Wars. Spend some time to reflect on history in this sobering memorial, and climb to the top of the tower for views of the bay. The tower also includes an exhibition about the German Naval Forces since the 19th century. You can buy a joint ticket for the Naval Memorial and the submarine U-995 just across the road, which is also worth a visit. • If you go to kiel a must-see is go to this memorial as a tribute to the sailors killed both in the first and second world war, you can also see an area of models large boats that participated in the 1 and 2 war. You can also climb by stairs or by elevator to a viewpoint and you can see all the fjord, precious. Finally in the part of down all you can see an area full of crowns and arrive to an area becomes flag as if it were a mausoleum. I buy the ticket combo which was worth € 9.5 to enter the submarine and memorial. If you go only to the memorial are €6

  • Enters into the bowels of the u995 and feel the sensation that had the sailors of the herds of Lions commanded by Doenitz who almost put on his knees to England... Notes torpedoes... motires and amenities offered by the crew of 42 men with an only bathroom that another used it for storing food... listen to a message in Morse key in the listening room and trmins the day entered the Museum building... from honey you take a ferry and takes you to the Museum... a luxury...

  • Marine-Ehrenmal, Laboe's naval memorial honors the sacrifice of all sailors in both world wars, although the facilities was originally built to honor just Germany's WWI sailors. The site includes the memorial tower, hall of remembrance, technical museum and the WWI U-boat. The memorial is neat and tidy, the museum is well-done but has limited archival pieces, the U-boat is well preserved and probably the best part of the memorial.
  • Beeindruckendes Denkmal. Es lohnt sich, Denkmal und U-Boot zu kombinieren. Soldaten erhalten Rabatt.
  • I love Kiel and Laboe. Been alot on camping in Laboe and around Kiel when i was younger. Really want to go back one day!
  • A really good memorial to visit. An incredibly impressive structure. Easy to get to from Kiel. Fast bus 102 takes you to Laboe ferry terminal and it's just a 1km walk along the beachfront from there (or a short cab ride). We visited in winter so it was very quiet. Worth visiting the U995 opposite the memorial on the beachfront.
  • Great opportunity for fantastic 360 view on Kiel fiord.
