  • We were to visit the Schlossberg caves Homburg. The former mine and shelter in the second world is an excellent destination for families with children in the region, adventure pure! Unfortunately, not all floors are accessible. Therefore a clear recommendation from us!

  • The Schlossberg caves in the hill above by Homburg are worth a visit. Well armed it goes into the illuminated corridors and caves of the former silica sand mine. In later times the cavities were also used as weapon bearing the French and bunker in the and after the world war. Millions of years of old rock and sand layers make interesting play of colors and space structure. The tour runs on a few steps on shallow sandy paths.

  • The castle ruins on top are free to visit and are fairly run down (as in, lots of graffiti, broken bottles, and other rubbish from drunk teenagers). The caves underneath are well worth a visit though. They are the largest sandstone caves in Europe and they're a short trip down the stairs from the hotel. It's a guided tour, and even though we didn't call ahead to get the English version, the guide did come over after his main group talk to give us the short version of each room. It's very interesting overall, and a good short day out in this area.
  • Very nice man made sand stone caves - amongst the biggest in Europe. It is also interesting for families with kids. The guides are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and have a lot of stories to share. A interesting mixture between natural history as well as regional history. In front of the caves you have a good view over the city center and near by are the ruines of a former castle as well as a playground.
  • nice colorful caves ... man made since ~1100 a.c. ... quite interesting history ... currently 1 floor accessible ... 2 smaller floors to be opened mid 2018
  • Amazing to see. The company items levels 10, 11, and 12 but are still working on the permit for the higher levels. Call the day before if you want a tour in English. Geology, paleontology, and history. Very cool!
  • Fantastic display on nature, would be nice if more of the caves were explorable.
