Government Building Architectural Building
Get at the heart of the city's decision-making at Town Hall (Rathaus), the landmark 19th-century city hall that watches over the city center. The building is easily recognizable by its 112 m (367 ft) center spire, robin's egg-blue roof, and intricate Neo-Renaissance architecture. Built over 40 years by a team of seven architects, the structure's style reflects the economic state at the time--of wealth and prosperity--and represents one of the few completely preserved historical buildings in the city. Some of its 647 rooms are still used for official purposes today, but the lobby is open to the public and is yours to explore. See Town Hall (Rathaus) and all Heidelberg has to offer by arranging your trip with our Heidelberg family vacation planner.
