Schloss Heidelberg, Heidelberg

Must see · Castle · Tourist Spot
Among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps, the ruins of Schloss Heidelberg offer sweeping views of the surrounding area. The castle has been partially rebuilt since lightning bolts and fires caused massive destruction in the 17th and 18th centuries. It dominates the view of the old downtown, just as it did in the 13th century. Sitting on a hillside above the city, the castle can be easily reached by a funicular railway, itself a major regional tourist attraction. Be sure to pick up an audio guide near the entrance into the castle. To access interior areas not available otherwise, join a guided tour of the castle and its grounds. • There is a magnificent view of the castle from the historical bridge and the square in front of the the science academy. There is an entrance fee to the castle.  more »
  • Relatively steep 10-15 minute walk to the top, but you can take the train. Once up there you can't beat the views from the castle courtyard. Even with the COVID precautions (3G) it was very crowded....  more »
  • Well worth a visit. You can also walk up to the castle which takes roughly 10 minutes. The views from the top are spectacular. One can eat and drink something on top. It cost 9 Euro to enter...  more »

  • This place is AMAZING!!! The Heidelberg Palace is a MUST if you are in the area. The palace has a lot of history, but it’s main attraction Is their wine barrel. It is the largest in the world. It is an amazing sight to see. If you have time you have to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable and recommended an amazing glass of German wine.
  • Great history and a beautiful view. The world’s largest wine barrel is definitely a nice draw, and the museum about pharmaceutical history is certainly novel too. Would say also take the time to walk around the open grass areas toward the back. Def a nice stroll for a date or for a little breather.
  • What a wonderful place I just visit the Heidelberg Germany castle it was wonderful. In July they do fireworks in Heidelberg castle is called burning to the castle it was great. The worlds largest wine barrel I ever seen it was neat to see. The walk along the castle and inside the castle walls you will tell your friends and families to come visit the Heidelberg castles. Again it was a wonderful Place to visit and walking along the Rhine River was phenomenal
  • The castle looks amazing from below as well as from the courtyard. It was a rainy day so the hills were covered in mist - it looked absolutely magical! Having a cup of mulled wine inside the castle was also a delight :)
  • Great castle. Looks really nice. Great view of the city from top, beautiful panorama. You can also buy wines, red, white and some interesting ice wine. But beware - extremely cold in winter!!! 🥶😱
