Kornmarkt, Heidelberg
(4/5 based on 130 reviews on the web)
Beginning its life as a hospital-- the outline of which you can see in the paving stones of the square--Kornmarkt became a marketplace in 1557. Now, it's a central destination for many events and celebrations, including the town's Christmas market. It's also an excellent jumping-off point for your tour of the city. Take advantage of the convenient parking below the square, and take in the impressive view of the castle looming above. If you plan to spend time at an event, remember to wear comfy shoes, as the uneven cobblestones can be hard on the feet. Happily, the many cozy cafes and taverns provide plenty of options for sitting down. • It is necessary to go through it to take the Funicular to the Castle. Very beautiful, surrounded by very typical and interesting buildings.

  • This is good place to get away from the tourist hordes in the Market Square. When we were there it was mainly families enjoying the day. There are a few restaurants and no souvenir shops.
  • I was here the first Saturday in October and the square was pretty empty. There is an ok fountain. Not much to see.

  • Very convenient location. Easy walk from multiple parking garages. We parked in Parkhaus Kornmarkt/Schloss, and it didn't even take 5 minutes to walk to the hotel.
  • Excellent location in the Centre of Heidelberg and to be able to walk to everywhere. Breakfast is good, room is quiet, parking garage around the corner and plenty of restaurants in the city centre. Start of the bus tour nearby for a quick introduction to the city. A city with lots of attractions and a delicious historical atmosphere. Very worth it.
