Take the funicular or drive up to King's Throne (Konigstuhl), where you'll find breathtaking views of city of Heidelberg, the River Neckar, and the Rhine Valley stretching out below. If the sky is clear, you can see all the way to the Pfaelzerwald Forest, 50 km (31 mi) away. Stop for refreshments at the mountaintop restaurant, and take advantage of the many walking paths. Kids will enjoy the playground and park. The 4 km walk downhill offers seclusion along a wooded path. If you decide to take the funicular, you'll see the Heidelberg Castle at one of its stops. Where to stay in Heidelberg

Most of the city's lodging is centralized near Altstadt, the Old Town. Here cafes, shops, and tourist sites line the cobbled streets. Many of the guesthouses here work hard to retain the area's historical feel.

  • Great view of Heidelberg city, bring your coat depending on the season you visit this place. I think it is also possible to go riding a bicyle. But if you are not in shape, better to take the rail.  more »
  • Took the Bergbahn railway up to the last stop (Konigstuhl) from the Kornmarkt station, with a necessary interchange at Molkenkur. It was a weekend, so the lines were pretty long (about 20-25 mins per ...  more »
