(900+ reviews on the web)
Zoo / Aquarium
Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover first opened its doors in 1865, making this one of Germany's oldest zoological parks. As you wander the 22 hectares (54.3 acres) of exhibits and habitats, you'll notice lush, realistic enclosures. The zoo prides itself on having few visible barriers between visitors and its 3,500 animals. You can walk through seven regions of the world, including the Zambezi, Yukon Bay, the Outback, and Gorilla Mountain. Follow the 5 km (3.1 mi) explorer path for the recommended route through the zoo. Ask about a guided tour if you'd like to learn more about the zoo's residents and its conservation efforts. Children will also enjoy the petting zoo and several playgrounds. • It is generally a good zoo, but it does not reach the level of others in the same Germany. Type Bioparc, but with more resources.

  • I could have written the review also many years ago. We lived for about 20 years at Hanover and are regular visitors to the Zoo's. Long ago, we have annual passes for several years for all family members. The admission price is quite high for a zoo. You should consider this before the first visit, before you cold surprises at checkout (after possibly a longer journey) is ;-) However this zoo with other Zoo is hardly comparable. As Avid Zoogänger we visited "around the world" some other Zoo's. The Hannover Zoo is unique in my opinion. Here is paired with Adventure World Zoo. With much effort, it has created various "animal world" bring one into another world and create much space especially the animals. Of course you can never go so far it at Zoo, there's only in the nature of a species-appropriate animal keeping to sprechen...die. The Hannover Zoo is however a lot of the effort that the animals can feel comfortable. And not behind bars in small enclosures. So the Zoo over the years has focused on significantly fewer different species and Habitat, to make room for the animals / larger enclosures. Thus arose such as the Zambezi River world, where you pass as a boat tour on the enclosures or could go on through. It seems natural to Disneyland/Universal Studios, is but very sympathetic. There are 2 kept polar bears in a very large facility, where in a here in you feel it a Canadian world offset, where an excellent / generous hospitality is offered. Another highlight is the elephant enclosure. Here, a great, "Indian" temple complex (in ruins) was created. I maintain malakhi that there is hardly a Zoo worldwide, which constantly come up with young people and is home to so many young animals. Here you can watch the animals for hours. The reason why I write the review until today, is the current report in the media. There is talk of abuse of elephants. Since we regularly go into this Zoo and on the enclosure of the elephants were we always often longer (especially when there were young again) I was shocked directly. Sicher...WIR are not 24 hours every day in the Zoo...und...auch... However, the animals have everything else as being abused/intimidated/frightened. On the contrary: the animals seem very happy, playing with each other, make "Nonsense". At each visit, was sometimes nurse in the facility, have "played" with the animals. There appear short "tricks trained to". But not like in the circus! We are very, very critical, as animals are kept and treated. Had been only the slightest doubt over many years, we would definitely avoid this zoo. I can highly recommend this zoo. Ultimately, you should plan a day to see all enclosure.

  • This is the best zoo I've ever been to. It's had lots of investment over the last decade or so and the themed areas are very special and make you feel like you're on a trip abroad - the African area w...  more »

  • A must go if you have time to visit it while in Hannover. The animals can be seen in pens which are very similar to their natural habitat. There is a lot of effort put into ensuring you are as close to the animals as safely possible. We got to see the seal show in the Yukon stadium which was a treat. Highly recommended to visit
  • This was the absolute coolest zoo I've ever been to. It really feels authentic. The animals do not look like they are in cages, they look very free and happy. The facility is very well taken care of. Also, this is the very first zoo I've been to where you can actually go into some of the enclosures and get super close! After 4:30 PM (16:30), entrance fee is only 6€. That's a steal! You definitely see where the money goes here. I can't wait to go again.
  • Well, it's a city Zoo. U can imagine this can not be the biggest one. I want to share one experience. I lost my English Zoo plan after entry and was far away. I asked in shops for a new one but they had only german plans. After Asking for it and unfriendly answer I got the Information to go to the entrance of the Zoo. Where I found another shop. After asking with wrong information where I didn't get one, I downloaded the plan. Bad service for foreign ppl.
  • Great zoo. Spend 3 days here before we saw it all. One day 7 hours. Only minus is that no info is in English. It is only a zoo for people who speak German.
  • My favourite zoo in central Europe (I've been to many), food can be expensive but is expected, you can always pack food as tables are free to use without purchase of food. entrance ticket includes everything from shows at scheduled times and boat rides showing off some enclosures up close like the giraffe enclosure and various others.
