Aegidienkirche, Hannover

(4.4/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
Dating back to the 14th century, Aegidienkirche lost its roof to air raids in World War II. Instead of being rebuilt, it was left as a memorial to the horrors of the war. The spaces that once held windows are now adorned with artwork. On the outer walls, you'll see baroque adornments with the angels, hourglasses, and skulls characteristic of the 17th and 18th centuries. As you tour the church, you'll hear a chime that was placed in the tower in 1958. The Hiroshima Peace Bell, a gift from Japan to serve as a remembrance of the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima, hangs in the tower's entrance. • The remains of this church are there as a memorial to the victims of both of the WW. You can enter the church by side doors.
  • the Germans were correctly decided not to rebuild it and keep in form. Just so people can remember. Why not worth giving the output of its hatred and where it might lead. Although nowadays already and it is bad.. Be sure to stop by, if not quite fully dried out.

  • I visited this monument yesterday evening while walking to city center, it reminded me of all victims of the WWII , cold, dark and sad.. but it is a must see place in Hannover.

  • Interesting place
  • Nice that you can walk where ever you want.
  • History Place
  • Memorial to the destruction of the war. I recommend you to check what is the white line on the ground inside the building. It's such a sad geek trivia. There is also a Japanese accent to throw bombs on Hiroshima, who like partner Poznań is a city Hannover.
