Dating back to the 14th century, Aegidienkirche lost its roof to air raids in World War II. Instead of being rebuilt, it was left as a memorial to the horrors of the war. The spaces that once held windows are now adorned with artwork. On the outer walls, you'll see baroque adornments with the angels, hourglasses, and skulls characteristic of the 17th and 18th centuries. As you tour the church, you'll hear a chime that was placed in the tower in 1958. The Hiroshima Peace Bell, a gift from Japan to serve as a remembrance of the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima, hangs in the tower's entrance. • Very visible traces of war. It's easy to see what the nasty side of war is because even with all the destruction it's still easy to see that this is/was a very beautiful church. It's now a memorial...

  • Wow. These ruins are beautiful, filled with sad history. Wonderful memorial of the past Germany since the 12th century. Great location within the center of the city

  • World war relic. Beautiful place in middle of the city. Needs more information boards to make it attractive for tourista interested in history.
  • It's an impressive monument to visit, take a moment to be there and imagine how it all looked like.
  • WWII ruins of a bombed church. Within remnants of four partial walls stands a sculpture. It is simply titled "Humility".
  • Special place to visit, but not always open to go inside. I went there in the evening where I could go inside and have a stroll and close look at the peace bell inside. The day after all doors where locked?
  • Well. This a one of kind place to go. I think the idea of leaving the walls up makes you see the war closer. I mean, the space becomes empty.
