Dating back to the 14th century, Aegidienkirche lost its roof to air raids in World War II. Instead of being rebuilt, it was left as a memorial to the horrors of the war. The spaces that once held windows are now adorned with artwork. On the outer walls, you'll see baroque adornments with the angels, hourglasses, and skulls characteristic of the 17th and 18th centuries. As you tour the church, you'll hear a chime that was placed in the tower in 1958. The Hiroshima Peace Bell, a gift from Japan to serve as a remembrance of the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima, hangs in the tower's entrance. Lovely to visit, and being autumn, the colours of the leaves were really nice to see in contrast with the ruins of the church, especially on a bright, sunny day.

The remains of the church are a beautiful memorial of what happend to Hannover during WW2. Found in the centre of Hannover it is well worth visiting, just a short walk from the town hall.

An old church which was destroyed during the World War II. Now it's left in ruins as a war memorial. It's a sad but very impressive place. One wall of the church is covered with leaves which looks very nice like a symbol that the life will win a war in the end. Located very close to the New Town Hall.

One of the underrated sites in Hanover. This is not to far from the center and it is definitely worth your time. You can spend few minutes inside and take in all the quiet and peace the place offers. It is also photo worthy ☺️

Right in the middle of the city, a peaceful place.. not very crowded as well. A reminder or horrors of war that don't differentiate based on religion. I used it for shelter during the rain.. Had a good experience visiting it. It is right between the other buildings and can be difficult to find if you are walking.

An old church that was destroyed during World War II. Now it is in ruins as a war memorial. A sad but very impressive place. One wall of the church is covered with leaves, which looks very nice like a symbol that life will eventually win a war. It is located very close to the New Town Hall. The church is dedicated to St. Egidius, one of the fourteen holy helpers. In 1943, the church was partially destroyed as a result of the Allied air raids on the city. Its remains serve as a memorial to war victims. The church is one of the city's attractions and is included in the Red Thread walking route.
