Volksparkstadion, Hamburg

4.3
#40 of 279 in Things to do in Hamburg
Home to the German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV, Volksparkstadion was one of the stadiums used during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The site has been home to a stadium since 1925, though it was rebuilt in 1953 and again in 1998, due to increasing safety concerns and the need for greater capacity. If you aren't in town for a soccer match or a concert, take a tour of the stadium, or visit the museum to learn about its history. Make Volksparkstadion part of your personalized Hamburg itinerary using our Hamburg tourist route planner.

Very nice station. Nice staff. Reasonable prices. No arrogance as they work in other stages of the people. Detailed tour incl. In these tickets the Museum. Beautiful fan store. Tasty Curry sausage

Stayed near the stadium in a local hotel, so decided to visit. First off, book in at least a week in advance as the tickets are delivered to your house and some international shipping times aren't qui...  more »

  • Great big stadium. Enterance and getting out takes from 5 to 20 minutes. Very good atmosphere and fans.
  • If only the team could match the quality of the surroundings. Excellent views from all seats and decent facilities for all fans. I love the walk through the park when heading from the train station.
  • Great arena with amazing atmosphere when it is sold out. Unfortunately there is no way to pay with credit cards and that put me in a tough situation since there was no possibility to withdraw cash close to the arena or on the arena.
  • Great atmosphere (improved compared to other seasons) great stadium, great time!
  • Long walk to the stadium from the subway but great atmosphere at the game and excellent tour the day before from a knowledgeable guide

Where to stay in Hamburg

The most dynamic part of the city is the St. Pauli area, also known as Kiez. This is where tourists and locals brush shoulders among the many bars, shops, and sites. Jungfernsteig, or Neuer Wall, is an upmarket area with brand name shopping and luxury dining. Consider a stay in the bohemian quarters of Altona or the Sternschanze/Schanzenviertel. These areas burst with character and offer out-of-the-ordinary shopping and dining experiences at lower prices.
