Stadtpark, Hamburg

4.6
#5 of 16 in Parks in Hamburg
Opened in 1914, Stadtpark is a public park in a suburb of Hamburg that is a fine example of 20th-century German landscaping. The green space is in the middle of an area of urban development and often hosts events, such as concerts, fairs, and exhibits. Paved paths provide roads for bicyclists and walkers, while the large sports center at the southeast corner has indoor swimming facilities and room for sports. In the northwest corner you'll find a planetarium with daily shows. Take a leisurely stroll throughout the park, and you'll see sculptures and cafes amid the gardens. The city is definitely one of the greenest and leafiest there is, and the Stadtpark one of its most beloved spots. At weekends and in summer it fills with people jogging, cycling, swimming, paddling o...  more »

This review refers only to the open air theatre. The ambience as such would be worth almost 5 stars, on a balmy summer evening, it's already very atmospheric. But there's 1 star deduction for the reverse light AWD gastronomy, a further deduction for a certain rip off when submitting articles (for an additional fee, of course) at the entrance: umbrellas etc I understand, but a push bike light? There, each Smartphone is greater. There remains an "extract" in the point...

  • Gorgeous park just outside of the city center to take a stroll and enjoy some relaxing outdoors. The observatory at the center is worth seeing, views from the top are free (if a bit of a hike up the stairs). The park also has a few cafes and lots of trails.
  • Lovely green lawns that run endlessly. Mighty trees so tall that they reach out to the sky. Perfect place to unwind outdoor, either alone or with family.
  • The park is huge with plenty of space, even for playing sports. It also is diverse: you have shady areas, as well as sunny ones, as well as places close to the water.
  • My favorite park in Hamburg! From a planetarium to mini golf, this huge park has so much to offer. You can also grill here in the sommer.
  • Some corners are better, some are worse, but taken all in all together it's one of the most beautiful, well done and diverse parks I've seen. And it has dog zones :)

Where to stay in Hamburg

The most dynamic part of the city is the St. Pauli area, also known as Kiez. This is where tourists and locals brush shoulders among the many bars, shops, and sites. Jungfernsteig, or Neuer Wall, is an upmarket area with brand name shopping and luxury dining. Consider a stay in the bohemian quarters of Altona or the Sternschanze/Schanzenviertel. These areas burst with character and offer out-of-the-ordinary shopping and dining experiences at lower prices.
