St. Petri Kirche, Hamburg

(4.5/5 based on 190+ reviews on the web)
Enter St. Petri Kirche to see important examples of religious art from the 15th and 17th centuries. The church's tall bell tower looks across the city of Hamburg, while its iconic lion-head door handles greet visitors entering the west wing. The Gothic structure dates to the 12th century, though much older religious buildings formerly occupied the site. Although its exterior is rather unimpressive, the building houses several major artworks, including a mural from the 15th century. Two oil paintings by artist Gottfried Libalt represent well-known biblical scenes, including the birth of Christ. Carefully restored after a devastating acid attack in 1977, these pieces represent major expressions of religious art produced in the 17th century. • Located very near the City Hall, called the attention his tower. The Church is beautiful by outside, but its interior is quite austere; it more remarkable is their pulpit and the organ.

  • The St. Petri Kirche is located right in the Centre of Hamburg. It is worth visiting also because you will find at your feet walking through the Center. Very large, beautiful and original in its simplicity. Tall and slender all brick commands respect. If you want you can also climb the Spire of the Bell Tower, but this must be done only through the scale and consider that there are about 500 steps ..!

  • I glimpsed while passing by bus 6 taken to Central station to go in Hafen city and eventually stopped, hard to photograph it all even with the tablet unless you're away, red bricks and full of spires in tone with the buildings along the canals, in a triumph of four columns arches that rise to a high ceiling , stained glass Windows behind the altar and its austerity with minimalist furniture. very strict and beautiful with many comfortable seats and chairs to add jobs. Invites to pause, to reflect and, in believers, prayer.

  • A must-see in Hamburg. The architecture is not as spectacular as the of St.Michel Church. However, the bell-tower offers a spectacular view over the city center. Hardly any building in Hamburg can have this view.
  • Nice to visit and great looking from the outside.
  • Great church
  • Fantastic view from the tower. Not many people know about the opportunity to climb it. It's city center, from there you can see almost everything...
  • Really nice to visit.
