Church
Enter St. Petri Kirche to see important examples of religious art from the 15th and 17th centuries. The church's tall bell tower looks across the city of Hamburg, while its iconic lion-head door handles greet visitors entering the west wing. The Gothic structure dates to the 12th century, though much older religious buildings formerly occupied the site. Although its exterior is rather unimpressive, the building houses several major artworks, including a mural from the 15th century. Two oil paintings by artist Gottfried Libalt represent well-known biblical scenes, including the birth of Christ. Carefully restored after a devastating acid attack in 1977, these pieces represent major expressions of religious art produced in the 17th century. • Already the view from outside can be a pause in awe. A beautiful church from the 12th century (first mentioned) with a now 132 meter high tower. The Church of St. Petri is a wonderful to achieve, because it is central in the pedestrian zone (Mönckebergstraße) 5 churches of Hamburg and also for tourists. Inside, the huge Windows are worth seeing in addition to numerous relics. As in many large churches, a shop, in which religious souvenirs can be bought there. Outside the church stands a monument to Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

  • A must-see in Hamburg. The architecture is not as spectacular as the of St.Michel Church. However, the bell-tower offers a spectacular view over the city center. Hardly any building in Hamburg can have this view.
  • Good place for praying.
  • Nice to visit and great looking from the outside.
  • Fantastic view from the tower. Not many people know about the opportunity to climb it. It's city center, from there you can see almost everything...
  • Great church
