St. Michael's Church, Hamburg

4.6
Religious Site · Architectural Building
The emblematic 132 m (433 ft) Baroque spire of St. Michael's Church is completely covered in copper. For centuries, this prominent feature of the city's skyline has been a landfall mark for ships sailing up the Elbe river. Relatively simple outside yet surprisingly opulent inside, the church features a large bronze statue above its main entrance showing Archangel Michael conquering the devil. Be sure to enter the crypt, which has an exhibit narrating the city's long history. Try to plan your visit for a sunny day for the best views from the church's tower. You'll find easy access by stairs or elevator. This city landmark hosts frequent concerts and other cultural events. Make St. Michael's Church a centerpiece of your Hamburg vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Hamburg online route planner.

  • That was great place to visit and to see what it is like in a catholic church. The visit up was beautiful. This is like an equivalent to the Eiffel Tower except in Hamburg. It was pretty windy up there and you can certainly enjoy the great city view up there. I highly recommend that you visit the place and check it out. It's worth visiting. Price wasnt so bad. About 5 euro I believe. Go and visit
  • Honestly I'm not one for religion but this is beyond that... This church has been rebuilt twice over the last 300 years due to fires and at this point it's a masterpiece considered by many to be the 2nd most beautiful church in all of Germany. The view from the tower is truly worth while.
  • The church is majestic from afar and even more when you reach the entrance. The main hall is beautiful with music in the background to soothe anybody. If able, will recommend to climb up to the top using the stairs, as there are some exhibits along some of the floors. Once you get to the top, you will have a fantastic all round view of the city, from the harbour to the town hall. There is also the former burial under the church, where it was used as a means to raise money for the church. Tickets are 5 euros only for access to the top, or 7 euros for additional access to the top and burial.
  • You can buy the tickets from the entrance and ticket for one adult was €5. There was an event so they didn’t let us inside, well, better luck next time! You can go up the stairs or use the elevator. Overall, amazing view from the top! if you have time make sure to check this place out.
  • Magnificent place, i would want to stay here longer. House of Jesus. Pure peace İ feel when İ was there.
