St. Michael's Church, Hamburg

(4.5/5 based on 2,600+ reviews on the web)
The emblematic 132 m (433 ft) Baroque spire of St. Michael's Church is completely covered in copper. For centuries, this prominent feature of the city's skyline has been a landfall mark for ships sailing up the Elbe river. Relatively simple outside yet surprisingly opulent inside, the church features a large bronze statue above its main entrance showing Archangel Michael conquering the devil. Be sure to enter the crypt, which has an exhibit narrating the city's long history. Try to plan your visit for a sunny day for the best views from the church's tower. You'll find easy access by stairs or elevator. This city landmark hosts frequent concerts and other cultural events. Make St. Michael's Church a part of your Hamburg vacation plans using our Hamburg holiday planner.

  • The Church inside is very nice and different from what you expect seeing it from outside. Personally I have not visited the crypt but climb to the tower which offers a great view over the city

  • The Michel is one of the landmarks in Hamburg and must be also visited. Including the parking garage offers a nice visit the Church.

  • The church is nice but not the most beautiful I've seen in my life. Late baroque and rebuilt many times. The view of Hamburg from it's tower is worth the 5€ you have to pay to visit it.

  • The church is beautiful and it provides a fantastic panorama view of the city! Don't worry about the endless stairs, there's an elevator you can take, and maybe walk down enjoying different city views on the way down.
  • Amazing , magnificent church . Especially you should see the view of Hamburg from the top 👍👍👍 There is a lift and not expensive .
  • Just beautiful. You have to go to the top of the tower, the view is just magnificent.
  • You can watch all the city. I recommend you visit this place.
  • Beautiful view all over the city. There is lift to the top of tower, but you should go down by stairs to look around inside tower.
