  • A small museum, containing much of the same floor. Talks about how the spices, coffee and other foreign goods began to be imported to Hamburg via shipping. Very little information in English. Good to be a little bit German. Was perceived as a bit boring after a while.

  • For only 4 euros entry you can learn much about the warehouse district in a small showroom. The Museum is, apart from the Elbe Philharmonic Hall in front of the Spice Museum (tend not to recommend which). A part of the exhibition itself concerns construction and expansion of the warehouse district. High-exciting, what when how why was created, much was destroyed also in the second world war. The larger part deals with the goods in the warehouse district, mainly coffee. To some things like storage of bags, use of carts, architecture of the houses, etc. as it is inconspicuous has it much fun to browse here for little money when it rains outside and to inform.

  • Although the Museum is small, it offers visitors well prepared information on the history of trade and the Speicherstadt. Whether coffee or tea, there are nice visuals make the long explanatory information panels handy.

  • It is a very small museum. I think it was fun (however the spices were a bit old and hard to tell the smells), but the problem is that if you do not know German, you don't really learn much from this museum. You probably can finish visiting this museum within 40 minutes if you do not know German. I wish they could put more English information.
  • A small museum telling you the history of that neiborhood. It's mostly in German, with about a third on the content translated into English. It's not super informative, but quite lively. A place for both adults and kids.
  • Cute little museum with detailed information. Although the translation in English is very brief it's still very informative.
  • Real nice museum. It's small indeed, but that makes it very pleasant. I easily spent 1,5 hour there, reading the plaques and watching the objects. Plus: they have great souvenirs, especially if you like tea, coffee and/or ports!
  • Great experience with an excellent tour guide taking us through the old part of town. Hamburg is simply a splendid place to visit!

Where to stay in Hamburg

The most dynamic part of the city is the St. Pauli area, also known as Kiez. This is where tourists and locals brush shoulders among the many bars, shops, and sites. Jungfernsteig, or Neuer Wall, is an upmarket area with brand name shopping and luxury dining. Consider a stay in the bohemian quarters of Altona or the Sternschanze/Schanzenviertel. These areas burst with character and offer out-of-the-ordinary shopping and dining experiences at lower prices.
