  • Nice museum on three floors, not particularly large and affects mainly the VW and Porsche. There is a small cafe. Parking garages in the neighborhood next door.

  • This place needs to be on top of Hamburg museum list. What i loved the most was the fact that cars were not behind ropes or glass. You can, although you shouldnt, touch everything. It was nice to see ...  more »
  • If the weather is lousy in Hamburg, it's a nice opportunity to go to this museum! The entry fee is okay! You see a lot of old cars and you maybe get an impression for car racing at the beginning of th...  more »

  • Some nice elements but very expensive considering the small number of exhibits. In my opinion unless you're a German car fanatic you'll leave disappointed.
  • The Prototype Car Museum is a very small place to be "the best" museum but it still gives you stuff to do for 1-2 hours. It is mainly a collection of old Porsches with a few Volkswagens and other early German cars thrown in. There is a small cafe with very limited selection of snacks.
  • Great museum. Must see in Hamburg. You will see moving cars, planes, boats and trains. Different miniatures of different places and countries. Including day and night vision.
  • This is a bad display. Few cars and messy layout. Stay away
  • A very interesting museum dedicated to some of Germany's motor racing, military and civil manufacturers. Beautifully laid out and very well lit in a wonderful modern and contemporary warehouse conversion. Written displays are in German and English but videos only have German audio, but the images tell the story! A wonderful selection of desirable and priceless cars from across the years displayed on various levels of the property. Easily accessible by lifts and stairs between levels, and there is also a small cafe for drinks and snacks. There's a shop with a selection of models, books and memorabilia. Plenty of seating throughout for resting as you could spend a couple of hours wandering. Not many interactive displays and touching of the vehicles is prohibited. There's also a driving simulator which consists of a TV screen, PlayStation and a stripped out Porsche to sit in. It's probably not suited for children due to the lack of interaction but it's ideal for any petrol head.

Where to stay in Hamburg

The most dynamic part of the city is the St. Pauli area, also known as Kiez. This is where tourists and locals brush shoulders among the many bars, shops, and sites. Jungfernsteig, or Neuer Wall, is an upmarket area with brand name shopping and luxury dining. Consider a stay in the bohemian quarters of Altona or the Sternschanze/Schanzenviertel. These areas burst with character and offer out-of-the-ordinary shopping and dining experiences at lower prices.
