Open for more than a century, Panoptikum - Das Wachsfigurenkabinett holds court as the oldest wax museum in Germany. Get up close to more than 120 figures, including political ones like Barack Obama, religious ones like the pope, and personalities from art and music, such as the Beatles and Mozart. Popular culture is represented, too, with characters like Harry Potter. A separate section holds the museum's original works, designed to educate people with displays about widespread diseases. This section is kept separate for those who would prefer not to see graphic displays. Unlike many museums of this kind, flash photography is permitted. • Although the museum is quite small there is still enough to see to occupy you for an hour or so on a rainy day. Some of the figures are quite realistic although some are just creepy. Others do not rep...  more »

  • A small selection of famous personalities who, whether now hamburger or not, is sufficient here all right. Of course, this is no comparison to the Madame Tussauds. Actually, the visit should not missed on a trip on the Reeperbahn. Especially since there much history behind stands and also an insight into the manufacture of wax figures are given. Especially also figures you so don't expect (fetuses, body parts and diseases) are

  • A nice place to see some famous people. A visit won't take too long, but it is interesting to see and have some photos take with some well known people.
  • Panoptikum is the cheaper version of Madame Tussauds. With lots of semi realistic wax figures from politician, artist, musician, performer or even movie scene with characters etc. Worth visiting, is cheap and nice.
  • Is a very nice place
  • Brilliant historic exposition

Where to stay in Hamburg

The most dynamic part of the city is the St. Pauli area, also known as Kiez. This is where tourists and locals brush shoulders among the many bars, shops, and sites. Jungfernsteig, or Neuer Wall, is an upmarket area with brand name shopping and luxury dining. Consider a stay in the bohemian quarters of Altona or the Sternschanze/Schanzenviertel. These areas burst with character and offer out-of-the-ordinary shopping and dining experiences at lower prices.
