Panoptikum - Das Wachsfigurenkabinett, Hamburg

(3.1/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Open for more than a century, Panoptikum - Das Wachsfigurenkabinett holds court as the oldest wax museum in Germany. Get up close to more than 120 figures, including political ones like Barack Obama, religious ones like the pope, and personalities from art and music, such as the Beatles and Mozart. Popular culture is represented, too, with characters like Harry Potter. A separate section holds the museum's original works, designed to educate people with displays about widespread diseases. This section is kept separate for those who would prefer not to see graphic displays. Unlike many museums of this kind, flash photography is permitted. • The Panoptikum is located in the St Pauli, a neighborhood full of things that red sector view, which you can tour and where you can visit this museum pass. The place is pretty small, is like an old four-story house, but the entrance is cheap (€6 adult, €4 children if I remember correctly). There are quite a few German characters, so if you are not very familiar can not recognize several. More floor up sculptures can be found in more related to history as Hitler, Stalin, Martin Luther, Napoleon While on the floor more below are artists such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, etc, so there is just enough variety. There is also an area dedicated to more medical phantoms, some figures to freak mode showing show and another area on the side covered with a curtain not suitable for sensitive people where a scene is shown as the medieval ages where people are tortured. The figures can not be touched and I must admit that there are some pretty well made, but others that leave much to be desired. You can take the tour with an audioguide, is available in German and English, to end the tour there is a small area where they sell souvenirs of the place.

  • most foreign and unknown characters ... ... a wax museum that fortunately we visited free because not worth spending a dime ... go to the central station in Milan and I find one 10 times better.
