Panoptikum - Das Wachsfigurenkabinett, Hamburg
Categories: Art Museums, Specialty Museums, Museums
Open for more than a century, Panoptikum - Das Wachsfigurenkabinett holds court as the oldest wax museum in Germany. Get up close to more than 120 figures, including political ones like Barack Obama, religious ones like the pope, and personalities from art and music, such as the Beatles and Mozart. Popular culture is represented, too, with characters like Harry Potter. A separate section holds the museum's original works, designed to educate people with displays about widespread diseases. This section is kept separate for those who would prefer not to see graphic displays. Unlike many museums of this kind, flash photography is permitted. The part with replicas of diseases of the human body is very interesting (but not suitable for children). Very interesting also the development Panopticon since the late 19 century, as well as the Guide for the production of wax figures. Although some figures not lifelike, they are nevertheless well done for their age (some are years from the 30 's/40's). It was also positive that there are different "departments". A Department for diseases and medical procedures (for children not) among others. Apart from the usual figures were also normal people.show original
viel kurioses und die üblichen Verdächtigen
Vanessa EberlWe have already purchased online the cards to bypass waiting time on good Friday. Directly at the entrance we were prompted online ticket confirmation at the box office for tickets back to Exchange. The Lady at the counter was also snide and rude. Remember we annoyed and but for now little. As we wanted but with the cards back in, we've been approached by the Lord with strange glasses, whether interested in a €0.50 would be expensive Guide. When we had politely refused, he said that we even here would have made a nice impression, but it is now no longer. He had also a totally audringliche kind in itself. In the exhibition, it was well attended and we had to take much consideration for other visitors (Crawlspace, everyone wants to be, etc photographed next to a figure). Next to each figure, a sign is attached with name and creation date of the figure, said the rejuvenated appearance of some character. Some looked really real, others low-cost. For the price of admission, it is ok and you can watch it at quiet times. However, I was a little disappointed really incredibly unfriendly staff and the sometimes poorly made implementation of the figures.show original
Nils HobbensiefkenAt the time of our visit, the three floors were unfortunately very well filled, which could concentrate mostly little on the wax figures and lose in their world, you often had to take consideration of other visitors. Still a beautiful exhibition.show original
Patrick KönigI felt the staff as very unfriendly, the exhibition is frumpy and delivered.show original
Cyrill BlülleIt has distributed a variety of wax figures there on three floors. Some have been models long ago. During our visit, a quiet Museum atmosphere reigned with few visitors.show original
