The Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial, located on the historical site of the camp, commemorates the over 100,000 people who were imprisoned in the largest concentration camp in northwest Germany during World War II. Exhibits on the history of the camp have been held at Neuengamme since October 1981. After expanding to include the grounds of the former prisoners' barracks, the memorial opened in May 2005 as a centre for exhibitions, international exchanges and historical studies.

  • While you have to take a little imagination, once you go you see quickly what happened there, do not think that is a Museum is a memorial to all those who suffered there, and no entry is not paid. You can get an audio guide in Spanish for €2. Advisable to go somewhere. To get is simple from Hamburg at the train station can take 2 lines the S21 or the RE1 and stop at Bergedorf station, once sales down stairs and get others to go where the buses and have two lines that leave you at the gate of the sternstraße are the 227 and the 327 and the stop is called Gedenkstätte. Again no need to return to the same stop at the end where this monument of the memorial have another stop.
