Kunsthalle Hamburg, Hamburg

#5 of 65 in Museums in Hamburg
Art Museum · Hidden Gem · Museum
If you appreciate both art and architecture, Kunsthalle Hamburg may leave you wondering whether to spend more time looking at the paintings or the building itself. The gallery focuses on Dutch and Flemish artists of the 16th and 17th centuries, French and German paintings from the 19th century, and art up to present day. Check out the website to find out about current exhibits. The layout of the galleries can be a little confusing; the gallery plan indicates room numbers that you won't find in the building itself. • The gallery has a nice collection of paintings. Obviously the main attraction is Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer from Caspar David Friedrich but there are many more other paintings from artists such.....  more »
  • A very impressive building well suiten for its purpose of showing art. The collection has a few very good pieces - especially from the 19th century and early 20th century. And quite a lot decent art.....  more »
  • What a great museum. It is easy to follow the 'tour' from the medieval altars through the nineteenth century up to the modern art. In the adjacent small galleries you will find more paintings, but...  more »
  • Great mix of art, from classical to modern, presented in a spacious building! Be sure to check out all the rooms and pass the underground tunnel to the next building! A lot of video art, some quite strange if you ask me!
  • Had a wonderful time. Very well-curated museum. I like the way they organized the contemporary arts and the masterpieces. Transparent Museum was very impressive and also the library.
  • The museum itself is a sight to behold and it was fun getting to know the building from the inside. The exhibitions were exceptionally integrated into the building. The details like the wall paint and the choice of floor material struck me and made a huge impression, combined with the beautiful pieces of art...just gorgeous. What a terrific collection. Visiting for the first time was a treat. Since i live in Hamburg, i will definitely drop by again. Highly recommendable!
  • Nice paintings gallery not so big but good to see. The entrance fee is €14. There is modern and old art presented in the museum. The navigation between rooms are not so easy so I suggest to take a map of the museum and follow the room by it's numbers to follow the historical sequence.
  • A very beautiful and interesting art museum, one of the best in Europe. German and European masters on display in an impressive typical building. Definitely worth a visit.
