If you appreciate both art and architecture, Kunsthalle Hamburg may leave you wondering whether to spend more time looking at the paintings or the building itself. The gallery focuses on Dutch and Flemish artists of the 16th and 17th centuries, French and German paintings from the 19th century, and art up to present day. Check out the website to find out about current exhibits. The layout of the galleries can be a little confusing; the gallery plan indicates room numbers that you won't find in the building itself. Excellent art gallery, plenty of classical art as well as a surprisingly large amount of contemporary art in an adjoining building. Quite easy to look around, plenty of texts in dual languages.

For a reasonable price you have a full tour of old masters, but also influential german painters. The Hamburger Kunsthalle has an impressive collection of art and the recommended tour will show how art progress in time. There are paintings which reach the roof, but also very small landscape paintings. If you're not satisfied, you will walk to the contemporary art section, which is in a modern wing of the building. I've spent 3 hours in this art building. I highly recommend this if you want to see a broad and diverse collection of art.
Loved it! You could easily spend 2 hours here just going through different rooms. It was a rainy day in Hamburg and this was the perfect place to be!
I love the selection of paintings and the way the gallery is organized. The contemporary art section was particularly impressive while I find that it has more of a message. I have taken some pictures but I feel that posting them here would rob people of experiencing it first hand.
One of the lady with midum short brown hair in the reception was very unfriendly. We bought the museum tickets from the link provided by google map. It's definitely official and real tickets. However, the lady in the reception told us that she has never saw such kind of tickets in her life, and she refused to let us enter the museum. We asked her to try to scan the QR code of our tickets but she rejected our requirement again (?). Then we asked to return the money back if we cannot enter the museum and she said NO again! What a brilliant service! The employee has 0% knowledge of with which supplies the museum is working and claim that our tickets are fake even though we bought via Google map!
Loved it. Breathtaking classic paintings, and interesting modern pieces, all under the same roof. Bring a lot of time if you want to see everything. You can stay here a while.
