International Maritime Museum reveals the history and future of shipping with a collection of artifacts, model ships, and maritime art. Look for a 3,000-year-old dugout found in the Elbe River. Don't miss the reproduction of Sir Ernest Shackleton's lifeboat from his trans-Antarctic expedition. The replica was used in 2000 by the German explorer Arved Fuchs when he retraced the route. Captain your own ship on a simulator. An audio guide is available for an additional fee. • This is the best Maritime Museum I have visited. Whatever you might wish to know about seafaring, warships, naval technology, navigation, maritime history - it is all here. My only regret is that I....  more »
  • I was really impressed with this museum. There are several floors, each packed full with exhibits. I'd gladly recommend going here if you have an interest in maritime history, or history in general.  more »
  • We tried to fit in as much of Hamburg as possible and this was the best museum of the lot. 9 floors of amazing exhibits that bring the maritime history of Hamburg and the world to life. This is a...  more »

  • One of the best and most interesting museums I ever visited. The building is big but you can use lift and the museum is very well organized. Take a lift and start visiting from the last floor. Huge collection of ship models on every level. Nice collection of paintings. The building is interesting itself - the oldest warehouse of the warehouse district. Nice views from the windows. We spent about 2 hours there and visited all the floors. Perfect as a starting point of visiting the warehouse area or a place for a rainy day.
  • MUCH larger on the inside than it appears on the outside. I like that you can leave and return within the same day multiple times to eat, shop, relax, etc. I enjoyed looking at the medals of different navies, learning the science behind navigation and looking at some of the ancient maps. It’s beautiful.
  • Definitely the most impressive museum I have been in; I like the architecture that reminds me about something alphines, and I also like the exposition that was really nice with the mountains and all! Also the location is very unique; The current exhibit at the Swiss Alpine Museum is a collection of 100+ artworks depicting the alps. It is really excellent.
  • Best museum I have ever visited and my background is in heritage preservation and anthropology so I have seen a lot of museums.Beautiful building which houses 10 floors of what used to be a private collection. The layout, design, and thoughtful displays are amazing! Great children's section on every floor where kids can interact with displays.
  • This is possibly my favorite museum of all time. They cover everything from reed canoes to aircraft carriers, and the exhibits include engines, art, clothing, and thousands of to-scale models. Sailors, history buffs, and people who enjoy art will find this place worth the visit. There is plenty of information in English, and I thought the audio guide did add a little bit but it isn't entirely necessary. I bought a souvenir for myself from the gift shop and it makes me happy every time I look at it. This is a true gem of a museum.
