  • They exhibit a lot of old and random harbour related stuff. Their is no guided tour. It really improvised.  more »
  • The harbour Museum is the purest treasure chest of historical and maritime artifacts around the port of Hamburg. By S-Bahn station Veddel in the Museum can be reached in approx. 15 minutes on foot. Various cranes, a cleaner, a floating crane and a general cargo vessel, which actually does not belong to the Museum can be found on the grounds behind the sheet pile wall. The shed itself includes a show camp with numerous objects relating to shipbuilding on Hamburg shipyards, shipping on the Elbe and in the port, cargo handling in the port of Hamburg as well as detailed information on imported goods and commodities. Numerous panels and videos explaining the pieces in the Schaulager in detail. A really interesting tour and a kind of time travel through the port of Hamburg.

  • Very interesting and revealing about the classic port time and as worked, or boatloads deleted were, when there was still no container.

  • This is museum should really be called the history of shipbuilding and harbor activities from 1900 to the dawn of the Container Age. Lots of rusting hulks of shipyard equipment and boats outside. Inside some great machines that were used to build ships here back in their day. Nice models of ships and equipment used to load them. All displays are in German language and there is no English translation available.
  • Good collection of maritime stuff. Most of the displays are in the German language
  • We went there for Bungee Jumping, organized by Jochen Schweizer, purchased via mydays.de for 79 Euro. Super friendly, helpfull supervisors. 50m jump from a crane.
  • Very nice place, plus the ships!
  • Interesting museum about the history of the port of Hamburg.

Where to stay in Hamburg

The most dynamic part of the city is the St. Pauli area, also known as Kiez. This is where tourists and locals brush shoulders among the many bars, shops, and sites. Jungfernsteig, or Neuer Wall, is an upmarket area with brand name shopping and luxury dining. Consider a stay in the bohemian quarters of Altona or the Sternschanze/Schanzenviertel. These areas burst with character and offer out-of-the-ordinary shopping and dining experiences at lower prices.
