Alster Lakes, Hamburg
(4.4/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Admire the results of an early dam project at Alster Lakes. The lakes were created in the 12th century when the Alster river was dammed, and they've become a vital component of Hamburg's character. You can wander along the extensive network of waterside pathways that crisscross the surrounding green spaces. You also can cross the bridge that separates the two lakes. Historic buildings dot Inner Alster, which features a 35 m (115 ft) high fountain at its center. For a longer trip, make your way around Outer Alster, where you can take in the city's skyline and photograph its reflection on the water's surface. If you'd like more action, rent bicycles. Boat tours offer a different vantage point. Plan to visit Alster Lakes and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Hamburg attractions using our Hamburg trip itinerary planner.

  • Hamburg is not a top tourist target but if you are in hamburg for any reason , do not miss it. It is a place should be visited in hamburg
  • It's not really a lake is an artificial pond on the river Alster was built in 19veke. Extensive pond by the Elbe dam is located on the Town Hall square. The rest of the coast, especially the left, built houses and even something like cottages. On the Lake you can go by boat, there is a floating fountain. People pretty much at any time of the day. Many water birds-ducks, swans.

  • The lakes are very special, well manicured and fauna... you can walk along the shoreline where the symbiosis of an energetic city and the tranquility of the water mirror is provided... Walk with stops at some of the bars. It is worth it.
