The Deutsches Segelflugmuseum mit Modellflug, situated on the Wasserkuppe in the German state of Hesse is the national gliding museum, opened in 1987.HistoryGerman glider pilots and designers have made many contributions to the development of glider aerodynamics and flight techniques. The Wasserkuppe has been a gliding site since about 1910 and was closely associated with the emergence of gliding as a sport during the interwar period. In particular it hosted the annual series of gliding competitions, started in 1920, that became known as the Rhön contests. Initially national, they became international events.Because of its long association with the sport, it seemed a natural home for a national gliding museum, an idea conceived in 1970 with the 50th anniversary of the first Rhön contest. The Deutsches Segelflugmuseum mit Modellflug was officially opened in August 1987 in a purpose built hall. By 2014 the collection included more than sixty aircraft, all German, showing their development from Otto Lilienthal's hang gliders through wooden machines to the earliest glassfibre aircraft of the 1960s. There are also photographic records, focussing on the series of Rhön contests, with aircraft pilots and designers. The museum has a store for aircraft which are not currently on display and a workshop for restoring them. In 2014 these held some twenty-five aircraft.Make Deutsches Segelflugmuseum a centerpiece of your Gersfeld vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Gersfeld holiday tool .

Deutsches Segelflugmuseum Reviews
Das Museum zeigt hauptsächlich ältere Segelflugzeug, ihre Herkunft und Entwicklung und gibt einen guten Überblick zur "Geburt" des Segelflugs in Deutschland als "Folge des verlorenen ersten Weltkriegs... more »The museum displays mainly older glider, their origin and development, and gives a good overview to the 'birth' of sailing flight in Germany as a "Result of the lost world war". I miss something the current developments in the glider's yes no aircraft must be issued but you could represent well over video walls. For me (but that's a matter of taste sure) is the model flight überepräsentiert. A walk through the workshop, but even here only historical (wood) is very good. A visit to the top of the water without having to go to the Museum should not give it, you can go in several times.

There are I think everything on the subject of flying seeks and finds even if it's not sought that :-). You must visit it just.
een mooie collectie aan vliegtuigen door de jaren heen maakt deze tentoonstelling wel de moeite om eens te bezoeken more »a nice collection of aircraft over the years makes this exhibition is worth a visit
Largest glider museum in Europe. They cover the whole history of unpowered flight starting with Otto Lilienthal, mostly focussing on the history of unpowered flight on the Wasserkuppe mountain. Lots of gliders, from old to very current to admire.
An outstanding museum of early flight. You don't need to be an aviator to appreciate it. Wasserkuppe is off the beaten track for most tourists but it is well worth the drive. Be sure to visit Peterschens Restaurant while on the mountain. The scenery from the mountain alone is worth your while.
A museum on the history of sailing flight, at its source. For those interested in is worth a visit in any case. Entrance fee is cheap and the Museum is beautifully furnished. If you have time have a short hike to the Aviator monument on the other side of the Summit of the Wasserkuppe is recommended
Small, fine, entertaining, cheaply and simply beautiful. Who is nearby, should come over here. The information content is enormous and the Wasserkuppe offers otherwise too much variety.
