Zoom Erlebniswelt, Gelsenkirchen

4.3
#1 of 17 in Things to do in Gelsenkirchen
Originally called Ruhr-Zoo, Zoom Erlebniswelt was built atop a heavily shelled area besides the water. The zoo is divided into habitats based the animals' natural environments, including Alaska, Asia, and Africa. Between the entrances to these areas, several houses hold smaller animals, insects, and educational exhibits. Before you reach any of these sites, you'll be introduced to the zoo's version of a Westphalian farm, which teaches you about the foundation of Germany life in the country. In its early days, the port provided the zoo with animals from the animal-trading industry. Now the zoo does its best to breed within its animal population. • We were the first time in the zoom in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, together with friends and her 1.5-year-old daughter. The Zoo is very open with the subdivision into the three areas of Asia, Africa, and Alaska. The animals are happy and the enclosure Act (in so far as the same can be said for a Zoo) backache. We could look at everything with baby strollers, which is a big plus. Again, there was very nicely designed playgrounds. I can only recommend this zoo. Only drawback: the Petting Zoo, of which I looked a little more (especially more small animals we guinea pigs and rabbits) promised, but this was perhaps also on the weather and is better in the summer. I would if the opportunity arises, the Zoo certainly revisit :)

  • We were already three times there and it's nice every now and again. It is an authentic environment and a possible welfare of many different animals. The best zoo we have visited in Germany.

  • A great family day out. So many viewing points. An enormous variety of animals out and inside for viewing pleasure. Places to buy/eat food are positioned around the whole zoo. The toilet facilities are clean and well kept, changing rooms included. Staff are very accommodating. The effort given to upkeep the zoo is amazing. The animals look healthy and well kept. Parking is 6€ for the whole day (thumbs up).
  • Huge calm zoo, on a warm day in winter very quiet. Lots to see, knackered now!
  • Very nice zoo with a free boat cruise in the african section. Lots to see. Some areas need a little maintenance, but overall experience was very impressive
  • I'm sorry but I just can't give a zoo a good rating anymore. I love that the genetic defect dwarf polarbear gets a home and survives but everything else is just a show with too little space. I can agree to helping save endangered species and education but I didn't really get that feeling from this zoo.
  • 6 euro for parking,21.5 euro for entrance, extremely expensive food and drinks. A huge place with lot of forests and trees but with not so many animals. We pay to see closer a lot of animals and not the trees. Very expensive with less animals than you can expect.Dirty place with dirty animal's cages. Also,in the begining they took us some photos and they told us that it was for free but at the end they asked from us 15 euro!!!! I have been at better zoo in that country with the triple animals and the half of ticket's price.
