Garmisch-Partenkirchen Ski Resort, a mountain resort town that defines picturesque, is home to the first alpine skiing events in the Winter Olympics, which happened in 1936. Ski jump championships are held here annually. Train services run every two hours from Innsbruck and Partenkirchen and every hour from Munich to Garmisch. The resort also provides activities that don't require so much daring, like hotel spas and mountain walks.   • The ski area is not very large but quite varied and has some very nice runs. The children's programme is very good, the half day offers of the ski schools super, if you wish to travel together as a family. The cottages offer comfortable resting places, are unfortunately common — not necessarily inexpensive but - as in ski areas. We've spent all in all here several beautiful holidays in the larger family circle.

  • A really good time skiing. Rather a traditional resort, and as such it seems to have fewer snowboarders than most places nowadays, but if you're here for siding down snow, then this is perfect. Snow q...  more »
