Garmisch-Partenkirchen Ski Resort, a mountain resort town that defines picturesque, is home to the first alpine skiing events in the Winter Olympics, which happened in 1936. Ski jump championships are held here annually. Train services run every two hours from Innsbruck and Partenkirchen and every hour from Munich to Garmisch. The resort also provides activities that don't require so much daring, like hotel spas and mountain walks.
