Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 110 reviews on the web
The legend of the local saint, St. Magnus, inspires the frescoes throughout Basilika St. Mang, the church of the St. Mang Benedictine abbey. You can't help but be impressed with the facade's detailed stuccowork and the interior's opulent decoration. The abbey was founded in the first half of the 9th century, while its medieval basilica was transformed into a Baroque church in the 18th century. It's still an active church, so those who are interested can attend a service here. • This is a great old church within site of the alps in a great small little town. The amount of detail and design are amazing. It is a surprising place to find such a nice church.
  • Especially the ceiling paintings are worth seeing apart from the pulpit. I'm glad that the Basilica is open and you can at any time into it.

  • Basilica of Saint Magnus and the Benedictine monastery dedicated to Saint here loved who lived in the area in the 8th century. In the Church crypt is stored, you can see one of the oldest frescoes of Bavaria, relating to the X-th century. The Bell Tower of the Basilica dominates the city and visible from everywhere. It really decorates the city views from the bridge across the river Lech.
