Fraueninsel, Fraueninsel im Chiemsee
(4.6/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
The smallest municipality in all of Bavaria, Fraueninsel (also known as Frauenchiemsee)--a small, car-free island--spans only 12 hectares (30 acres) and has approximately 250 inhabitants and just over 50 houses. Take a ferry to the island, and then go on a leisurely, 20-minute walk along the quiet shoreline of Lake Chiemsee. A monastery founded in 782 CE+F46, open to visitors, covers nearly one-third of the island. Pick up some of the famous Kloster liquor, which is produced by the monastery's nuns. • Only two weekends in advent, the Christmas market on the island, takes place. By Gsadt from the arrivals and departures worked very well, after Prien back there at night but very long lines in the cold night wind. The cabins are nicely spread across the whole island, there are arts and crafts by local artists as well as the typical Christmas items. Is sufficiently catered for eating and drinking, all of the island's restaurants have opened, in addition there are stands for bratwurst and mulled wine all over the island spread. We had though no snow, but it was cold enough for delicious mulled wine. Anyone looking for a special Christmas for the whole family is very right in here!

  • Worked out this year. Absolutely worth seeing. In addition to many booths with food, drink also arts and crafts, Christmas decoration. After nightfall, it was really idyllic. Too bad no snow. With the number of visitors, the shipping company could handle very well. Still waiting on the return.

  • A featured small island, which is easily explored on foot. In the autumn, the visit was a great experience, it was dressed just the Christmas market, a nice ambiance that unfortunately only a day later, opened.
