Fraueninsel, Fraueninsel im Chiemsee
(4.6/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
The smallest municipality in all of Bavaria, Fraueninsel (also known as Frauenchiemsee)--a small, car-free island--spans only 12 hectares (30 acres) and has approximately 250 inhabitants and just over 50 houses. Take a ferry to the island, and then go on a leisurely, 20-minute walk along the quiet shoreline of Lake Chiemsee. A monastery founded in 782 CE+F46, open to visitors, covers nearly one-third of the island. Pick up some of the famous Kloster liquor, which is produced by the monastery's nuns. Put Fraueninsel at the forefront of your travel plans using our Fraueninsel im Chiemsee vacation generator.

  • We visited this island after Herreninsel. It is a nice place for leisure walk around. Klosterwirt restaurant serves fantastic chocolate mousse.
  • It was foggy and yet wonderfully cool, easy. The island is easy to explore on foot, and shows many beautiful facets: small bays for ships, lovingly tended gardens, beautiful monuments and beautiful restaurants. In the background, the mountains were to see in clear weather which are certainly wonderful. In October, the island was quiet and less visited than summer. The rest, the walk and the numerous different impressions formed a wonderful change to everyday work - so that we gladly would repeat it.

  • Just a sample of the quiet, remote from all the bustle of the island with its way of life and natural beauty! On the island there are several mini-hotels. I do not recommend to go in season-feel the joy of staying in this wonderful place.
