The Hauptwache, Frankfurt
(3.8/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Frankfurt's main plaza, The Hauptwache is named after the Baroque building that is the plaza's centerpiece. The building was the home of Frankfurt's militia when it was a free city, and later it was a prison and a police station. Nowadays, it is a much friendlier place, with a cafe that been in operation since 1904. The Hauptwache Train Station in the plaza is one of the city's major transfer points between train lines, so locals often use the plaza as a meeting place. • Walking by the place is what I recommend, because we can see everything, shops, cafes, Church monuments ... very nice walk around here. You will find not only tourists and Yes villagers coming and going from work. It is also options for lunches and snacks (typical food), I love experience in travel, local flavors.

  • Beautiful square, bustling, with many shops and always full of people. It is worth climbing to the roof of the Kaufhof department store Gallery to look at it from above and also enjoy the panoramic views of the rest of the city.

  • Trading routes branch off from this square in Frankfurt! There are several area shopping malls that allow you to climb for free on their terraces! Metro stop just below the square!
