The Hauptwache, Frankfurt

(3.8/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Frankfurt's main plaza, The Hauptwache is named after the Baroque building that is the plaza's centerpiece. The building was the home of Frankfurt's militia when it was a free city, and later it was a prison and a police station. Nowadays, it is a much friendlier place, with a cafe that been in operation since 1904. The Hauptwache Train Station in the plaza is one of the city's major transfer points between train lines, so locals often use the plaza as a meeting place. • + Location + historic building - Tatty - very "mixed crowd" - Beware of pickpockets, etc.

  • If you are looking for a place that I've saved in your travel kajetach in capital letters, this is not such a place. For me, it's just a long shopping arcade with restaurants, pubs, etc. People looking for purchases will be satisfied. Looking for nice views and flat out recommend stroller on the River to which no problem hit even from St. Stephen's Cathedral. Bartholomew.

  • The Hauptwache is a central region of Frankfurt, next to the famous Zeil Street and close to the main points of the city. It's very busy and has a train station through which many rows. Has several stores (especially the Department Store gallery), restaurants and bars. Is a good starting point for the tours in Frankfurt, because from there you can walk to the Romer, home of Goethe and Main Tower.
