Eiserner Steg, Frankfurt

4.1
Built in 1867 to support horse and carriage traffic over the River Main to the train station, Eiserner Steg offers stunning views of Frankfurt's skyline and most historic buildings. Cars are not allowed on the bridge, making it an ideal place for a romantic walk or a pensive stroll. Along the railings and bridge structure, you'll find hundreds of padlocks placed here by couples as a symbol of their unending love. The bridge connects the city's historic quarter with the Sachsenhausen district, where plentiful museums and pubs serve typical German cider. • It was a lovely experience of visiting the Eiserner Steg (the Iron Bridge) - a 170-meter long pedestrian bridge built in 1868. Destroyed during World War II, it’s reconstruction began in 1946. In 1993...  more »
  • The Eiserner Steg bridge or Iron Bridge, as much of the city, was destroyed during the World War 2, but was rebuilt shortly thereafter. It is the bridge that connects the city centre to the Sachsenhausen district. Is exclusively for pedestrians and allows amazing vision of the city! The Germans chose this bridge to record the star-crossed lovers! Those who wish to take note of it, put padlocks hung from the railing of the structures of iron and play the key into the river so there's no separation. And you could epitomize your love?

  • Decent bridge, covered in padlocks but its nothing specially in terms of size or technicality of architecture.  more »

  • Spent a few minutes waiting for service and left. Server spoke to me very rudely because I had the audacity to want to use the toilet first. I had just spent 3 hours on a walking tour. Atmosphere ruined a bit by very noisy English people at the bar who evidently work there (I'm also English). Server also got annoyed because I didn't want to sit next to the door and the noisy people. What difference does it make where I sit if the place is half empty and the table I want is the same size? Learn some manners.
  • Nice cottage look for a traditional German restaurant serving their best German food. Good beer and lady server when got acquainted was friendly and helpful. Jus opposite the lovers bridge so have a wonderful time here.
  • Out of the way lityle, cozy pub stile restaurant. Service, price, ambient great. Ordered sausage and schweishaxe, both plain, the last on the not so cheap
  • My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place after a wrong turn and we couldn't have been happier. The feel is cosy, like grandma's kitchen and the food was great and a fair price for the portion. I'll eat here again if I'm back in the area.
  • Cute and cosy, typical German pub with delicious local dishes. A reduced menu, but everything is very well made.
