Eiserner Steg, Frankfurt

4.4
#4 of 52 in Sightseeing in Frankfurt
Bridge Tourist Spot
Built in 1867 to support horse and carriage traffic over the River Main to the train station, Eiserner Steg offers stunning views of Frankfurt's skyline and most historic buildings. Cars are not allowed on the bridge, making it an ideal place for a romantic walk or a pensive stroll. Along the railings and bridge structure, you'll find hundreds of padlocks placed here by couples as a symbol of their unending love. The bridge connects the city's historic quarter with the Sachsenhausen district, where plentiful museums and pubs serve typical German cider. • Perhaps the best view of Frankfurt. This place is a must visit for anyone coming to Frankfurt. Such a beautiful view with a lovely wind that is very often there. It's so relaxing.
  • We spent lovely time there. You can enjoy the lovely view of Main river. It can be reached by Tram from the Frankfurt HauptBahnHof, or even you can reach by foot.
  • It's a bridge, it crosses water. I did not fall in the water nor get wet so it served it's purpose admirably.
  • A wonderful piece of architecture. We had a 7 hour layover and felt that we needed to leave the airport to experience this piece of art. A must visit in the Frankfurt.
