4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
Relatively small in size but steeped in history, Alte Nikolaikirche was once the church of city leaders and today serves as the home of the local Lutheran congregation. This double-aisle Early Gothic church was mentioned as early as the 13th century, but it is believed that the core of the structure is considerably older. The church is noted for its 47-bell harmonic carillon, Gothic roof gallery, and 14th-century entryway sculptures. Though the substructure of the church's iconic tower was constructed around 1240, the higher stories likely were added during a reconstruction in the 1440s. Throughout the summer months, the church hosts a variety of concerts; visit the official website to see exactly which special events you can attend during your stay. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Frankfurt holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Alte Nikolaikirche and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Rebuilt as almost everything left in Frankfurt for more than 70 years but which allows you to get an idea of how were the religious buildings of the old city.

  • I believe that if you are in the most famous square of Frankfurt costs nothing extra to take a moment this beautiful church, definitely not enclosing great masterpieces but a quick visit you can't miss. It isolates itself completely from the bustle of the square that doesn't reach for anything to be perceived and you seem to be in another place, a few minutes of silence there is no harm even the most hardened of tourists selfaioli.

  • Also a must in Frankfurt, very historical and beautiful!
  • Geschichtsträchtige Kirche mit toller Atompshere.
  • One of the many downtown churches, this one has been here since the 15th century (its predecessor at the same location was built in 1103) and narrowly escaped the bombing of pretty much all structures around it.
  • very nice

  • All attractions are compactly. All can be bypassed for a couple of hours. More than one day to linger here.
