Ettal Abbey has been in operation as a Benedictine monastery for centuries, following the strict monastic lifestyle while welcoming the public to its community. The basilica that acts as the monastery's main gathering place often hosts religious holiday celebrations that attract large crowds to its domed chapel. Tour the grounds and the majestic basilica, then head over to the Klostermarkt, where you can buy beer brewed by the monks. The proceeds go to support the upkeep of the monastery grounds and the charitable work.
