Grugapark Essen, Essen

(4.6/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Grugapark Essen, a botanical garden established in 1927, plays host to Germany's largest collection of climbing plants, a bonsai garden, a medieval herb garden, wetlands, and more. Wander through the various gardens to see plants from around the world. Visit the greenhouses, spend some time in the sensory garden, or settle on the grass for a picnic. A little train offers rides around the park for a small fee. Entry to the park is charged during the day, but if you come back in the evening, you can enjoy the park for free. Grugapark Essen is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Essen Edition.

  • Beautiful park where it is good to walk, glide, rest. Depending on the season, multitude of rhododendrons, peonies, dahlias, roses etc. A corner of quietness in the city

  • Eat as the green capital of 2017 and the light installations in the Grugapark are hit every spring!

  • When I moved to Essen, the city seemed at first somewhat gray, until I met the Gruga. A great, green oasis, which is priced really affordable. 4 euro normal entry, but for students there are discounts. Once a year, the event "Parking lights" is held where many lighting artists present beautiful exhibition pieces are colored illuminated at night in the dark.
