Botanischer Garten, Erlangen

(4.7/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Experience ecosystems ranging from the tropical to the pre-Alpine at Botanischer Garten, an oasis of glass houses with plants, insects, and reptiles from around the world. Each is home to a different climate. In the tropicarium, more than 2,000 species of endangered orchids cover the jungle plants, as red-eared terrapins sun themselves on logs. Other houses recreate the arid plains of Madagascar, the spiky cactus-filled Mexican desert, and lush, watery, lowland tropics filled with water lilies and butterflies. Another is dedicated solely to carnivorous plants. Don't forget to grab an audio guide, which provides in-depth explanations of significant plants in German and English. Round out your visit with a relaxing walk through the arboretum, the rhododendrons, and fern gorge. Stop to rest in the ancient grains area, as the soothing aromas of fresh spices wash over you. Make Botanischer Garten a centerpiece of your Erlangen vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Erlangen family vacation planner.

  • Located next to the castle garden it's worth getting a trip to the Botanical Garden. Exotic plants paired with Jura cave from the Franconian.

  • Great many beautiful old trees created, very well maintained: just the greenhouses are always worth a visit, and all for free
