  • A wonderful place to enjoy nature, the ancient Abbey and tasting fine wine! Are guided tours on weekends. If you come by yourself, you can take the audioguide and listen to the story of the Abbey. It is best to go to a warm day to walk and enjoy nature. The territory is gorgeous!

  • We stayed here for one night in August 2017 and genuinely liked our stay. The Klosterschänke, the restaurant at the site is ok but nothing spectacular I'd say. Since the price level is good, it is not...  more »

  • There is a sense of going back in history as we strolled through the timeless Roman arches of the monastery. The Cistercians had a very simple lifestyle and it is evident from the strong wooden arches with bare furnishings. The church is central to the workings of a monastery and the Roman architecture will make you fall in love with its simplicity. The dining hall of the lay brothers is where all the action used to take place. The wooden wine presses of the 17-19th century are still visible. Although the monks were known for their austerity, but the Baroque period saw the monks showcasing their worldly wealth. The Baroque residence was one of the most elegantly decorated rooms in all of medieval Europe. The richly decorated ceiling takes your breath away.
  • the site were The name of the rose was filmed
  • Visited in 2012. I recognized parts of the Abbey from the movie "In The Name of the Rose!" Wonderful experience walking the paths of scenes in this really good movie! I was floored to learn the histories of this beautiful Abbey and Vinyards! Just beautiful!
  • The guides were great. Beautiful place and well worth getting the English guide if it's available so you can learn about the history of this place!
  • Beautiful monastery with great wine. They're known for their Riesling. Just wish they had tours in English (you can book private tours at $50 in foreign languages).
