Drachenschlucht, Eisenach
(4.5/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
A canyon that been a destination spot since the Middle Ages, Drachenschlucht is a gorge and series of hiking trails that cut through the forest. The nature area is part of a protected park that offers tranquil walks alongside rugged terrain. Royals once used the grounds as a hunting area, but now the animal life has returned. A castle and hunting lodge dating from the 18th century are still standing and open to visitors. Bring plenty of water and a snack with you for the hike; apart from one restaurant, you won't find any other facilities with water or food. A visit to Drachenschlucht represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Eisenach vacation trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • We are broken up by the Wartburg Castle to the hike through the Gorge of the Dragon. The Gorge has not disappointed us. Well we liked close moss-covered walls, small streams and fragrant autumn forest. It is sometimes very muddy after rain, otherwise, the paths are well prepared and reported. On the way back to the castle we came by with the fairy Grotto. There, it was even quieter because there fewer hikers were passing. Beautiful round through the forest, which is interesting and not too difficult to walk for children.

  • We have (probably) controlled the first parking lot. Day ticket: € 4. From there, it headed dragon Gorge. The sign was in order. We opted for the direct way to the Dragon Canyon. The road to the Gorge is narrow. No 2 people fit side by side. Also not with baby carriages and bicycle access. The circular hiking trail is longer than the Dragon gorge themselves. Since it is in about 5-10 min.. We can recommend the spectacle of nature.

  • About 11 km from the parking lot of Mariental are well groomed trails, great atmosphere, medium difficulty now to the Landgrave Gorge walk further.
