  • Florence on the Elbe is not an understatement and the unique views of the newly restored old town is really an absolute must!

  • The Canaletto view is a viewpoint on the Northern Bank of the Elbe, a few meters west of the Augustus bridge. From Golden rider out it is on foot in less than two minutes. The place of the Italian artist Bernardo Bellotto, called Canaletto also got its name. This produced a drawing with views of the river Elbe to the old town in the 18th century. At the site on the banks of the Elbe, where Canaletto once made his drawing, today is a frame with a photo of the original image. So, each with his camera to capture the look of yesteryear. The artist had a good taste. The site offers beautiful views of Dresden. We liked to be here very well.

  • August the Strong took one Italian painter and made him the court painter. When he painted the original panorama of Dresden, who would have thought that it will forever in the future have this view bear his name, the Canaletto View. In fact, he painted 14 of these masterpieces. To me, sunset was the perfect time to enjoy Canaletto’s inspiration. The colour casted by the setting sun is closer to the paintings. Also gone are the tourists who would pose selfies at this giant frame mockup (which incidentally is what I’m using to frame this picture. Sorry, guilty as charged). The river bank is now filled with local folk enjoying the evening, having a picnic, cycling, running and simply smelling the roses.
  • Very nice place for picnic with a nice view
  • A beautiful, historical Outlook blocked not just by cranes

  • From here painted Bernardo the lottery, better known as Canaletto, his famous view of Baroque Dresden. It is impressive that the view has hardly changed. A Bank and a red border round off the vantage point.

Where to stay in Dresden

The Old City, or Altstadt district, is the city's historical center. You'll find a wide selection of accommodations around the major tourist sites. For an area that stays active both day and night, consider lodging in Aussere Neustadt, located northeast of the Old City. The Hellerau District has an urban and hip vibe, thanks to the fashionable young locals who populate the area. Boutique hotels contribute to the area's chic feel.
