Bruehl Terrace, Dresden

4.7
Nicknamed "the balcony of Europe," Bruehl Terrace offers superb views of the River Elbe. Take a walk down the terrace to admire the historic buildings and picturesque surroundings. Pause near the Johann Friedrich Böttger monument to look for a fingerprint in the guardrail of the terrace garden. It is said to have been left by August the Strong and to be proof of his strength. Pop into a cafe, sip a coffee, and watch the mix of tourists and locals walk by. Where to stay in Dresden

The Old City, or Altstadt district, is the city's historical center. You'll find a wide selection of accommodations around the major tourist sites. For an area that stays active both day and night, consider lodging in Aussere Neustadt, located northeast of the Old City. The Hellerau District has an urban and hip vibe, thanks to the fashionable young locals who populate the area. Boutique hotels contribute to the area's chic feel.
