With 1,840 animals representing 265 species--including the largest population of giant otters in the world--Zoo Dortmund offers 28 hectares (69 acres) for the creatures to roam. Although the animals in this green parkland are from all around the world, the zoo focuses on preserving South American species, including the giant anteater, tamanduas, and South American giant otter. Main areas of interest include the Amazon Building, which copies the natural diversification of the Amazon's tropical forests, and the Otter House. • Quite a nice zoo, right next to a big park. The tickets are very cheap for a zoo. Lots of interesting animals. Few animals I haven't seen before are the big capibara, alpacas, armadillo and sloths. Parking is free (there were no gates nor parking ticket to buy), big parking lot too. Feeding times were stated on a board at the entrance. Pinguins swimming walking for fish, lion getting a rabbit, apes getting fruit. Saw some other animals getting fed at around 5, like the giraffe. Highly recommend to see how they eat leaves from thorny vines with their super long tongue. A restaurant in the middle had some nice crunchy fries.
  • Nice zoo, clean, comfort.. And I saw some animals that I haven't seen before, like Kangaroo, camel in winter etc.
  • Variable animals and great place to hangout with kids
  • Great zoo. Clean, comfort and very nice children playground inside zoo.
  • Very cosy zoo
