Zeche Zollern II/IV, Westfalian Museum of Industry, Dortmund
(4.5/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web)
Here's a fascinating tidbit for the day: This grand old building, now Zeche Zollern II/IV, Westfalian Museum of Industry, was once a coal mine. Natch, the museum focuses on the German coal-mining industry. Admire the impressive "mansion of labor," and study a variety of artifacts from the industry’s heyday. Stories from the 20th-century workers themselves immerse you in the conditions the men and women endured. Children will enjoy the coal-mine play area, but they're likely to get wet and dirty, so bring a change of clothes for them so you all can stop for food or drinks at the onsite restaurant. Our Dortmund vacation planner makes visiting Zeche Zollern II/IV, Westfalian Museum of Industry and other Dortmund attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • the grounds and the exhibition are really very interesting. Moreover, here also the always sold-out gala evening is held.

  • Visited on a Saturday afternoon in the winter the Zeche Zollern. A few other visitors allowed to make tour and time yourself. Superbly crafted exhibition for techies and the life - work situation of the miners in earlier years. Building/scaffolding/exhibitions in fantastic condition, good food in the restaurant horse stable, friendly staff, on the map I was missing the "coal pot' dishes. Really terrific and will visit other fiber OPTIC museums.

  • When approaching believed to a castle to come - hide the head frames times. Architecture of orientation on the brick Gothic. In the renovated great machine Hall, you can admire the main entrance with colored glazing and the beautiful large art nouveau clock. Of course the impressive Masschinen. The permanent exhibition and others in the Black Hall shows interesting exhibits on the topics of education and health.
