Zeche Zollern II/IV, Westfalian Museum of Industry, Dortmund

(4.5/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Here's a fascinating tidbit for the day: This grand old building, now Zeche Zollern II/IV, Westfalian Museum of Industry, was once a coal mine. Natch, the museum focuses on the German coal-mining industry. Admire the impressive "mansion of labor," and study a variety of artifacts from the industry’s heyday. Stories from the 20th-century workers themselves immerse you in the conditions the men and women endured. Children will enjoy the coal-mine play area, but they're likely to get wet and dirty, so bring a change of clothes for them so you all can stop for food or drinks at the onsite restaurant. Our Dortmund vacation planner makes visiting Zeche Zollern II/IV, Westfalian Museum of Industry and other Dortmund attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • For what this abbreviation, not everything is good. I knew water line fiber optic cable and length... Impressive old technique. I can't believe how big these things are. We had only less than an hour time due dates, but we come back guaranteed. Generally worth several visits.

  • We were here on the weekend (Saturday). Actually we wanted to bridge just a little time, but there's so much interesting to discover, to experience history... we have spent all day here so much. Also with children you can here certainly good coming (even if we have none), in a building you can see very much and touch, everything is easily explained and there are nice "stand" which explain child-friendly in addition to the attractions. Otherwise reported about the mining history of the two world wars over you get shown how this Bill was created and was discontinued at the end as the operation. Really a great day and much knowledge of what it takes.

  • Since I live nearby, I was unmittelber after the opening of the machine Hall (which was renovated extensively in recent years) back into the Museum. It was really worth. For engineering and architecture enthusiasts and those who want to learn about mining and the life and work of the miners, I can highly recommend a visit of the Zeche Zollern. Take at least. 1-2 hours time, who likes can spend the whole day in the various exhibition buildings. Not only kids will have special fun a ride around the Museum grounds with a real tramway. Recommended restaurant stables with his westfälichen cuisine, directly on the Museum grounds.
