  • I've been on site for a wedding party, when I was able to visit the facilities. The visit shows us how the industrialization of the region happened and as Dortmund today is different.

  • Worth a visit especially during the night of industrial heritage, since the lighting is impressive and it various events take place.

  • Coking plant received in large parts. Recommended tour guided tour to see all the technical and architectural treasures. Very good photo opportunities.

  • When my girlfriend put together our itinerary for a weekend trip to Dortmund, I was skeptical at the prospect of a visit to an old industrial coke plant. Hell, I didn't even know what (this kind of) coke was! Needless to say, my expectations were exceeded. We had a fascinating tour of the place led by a man who used to work the plant and had an intimate knowledge of its history and operation. It was a unique glimpse into a bygone era when Germany was almost unrecognizable to those only familiar with its present state. The tour was extensive (>2 hours!) but left me wanting to learn more about the process and history of coal processing (my interest level had previously been near 0). My favorite thing was seeing where nature was reclaiming the factory grounds, with layers of soil covering rail tracks and platforms, already sprouting trees that have grown for a few years. It was a unique and memorable experience. Two caveats if you're considering a visit. First, I don't think the tour is available in English. I speak fluent Dutch, which is close enough to German that I understood about 80% of what was said, but I don't think our guide spoke enough English to give a tour in it or translate the more technical words. Secondly, this tour is mostly outside, so I wouldn't recommend it on a rainy day or in super cold weather. It involves moderately vigorous activity (lots of walking, stairs, and a really long and steep ramp) and goes into lots of places built long before people were concerned with accessibility. A couple of people on our tour were in their 60's and in good shape, and they handled it fine, but I could imagine it being challenging for some.
  • Great for photography. Has an urban exploration feel to it, but is fully legal as we paid 4 euros to get in.
  • The system impressed, especially when you consider the years come from the individual parts of the building. You get quite an insight into the harsh working conditions of the time. The group leadership provides the matching insider knowledge. 2 hours we were on the road at the facility. It really is an experience and should be done if you want to experience something authentic from Dortmund to what has nothing to do with football times. 😉 Really recommended!

  • Full score. You can explore the coking plant on your own, or taking part in the tours offered. We opted for a guided tour. The tour goes on for two hours and is very well done. 8 euros for adults, children under 12 are free. Our Tourgide was class, in-depth and very informative. All questions were answered promptly. Great I found the way up to the coal silo, you don't get to otherwise see, without a guide. All in all a good thing.

  • Here, we took part in the guided tour. The roughly two-hour guided tour was exciting, informative and was, man, realized that mediated by the Nice Lord with joy. Our 11jähriger son not bored. Thanks for the great guide.
