  • An allegorical fountain, so to say the source of the Danube (which geographically/hydrological is not correct! ...). Beautiful edifice but for the rest nothing particularly. If you are here then you can but to go look ...

  • Was tracing out the Donau river on Google Maps after visiting the river in Linz last summer. I was intrigued by the name, which seemed to indicate the mighty river pops into existence from a spring. F...  more »

  • 1) What I learnt at school: the river Danube originates in the Black Forest. 2) What I expected: a quiet clearing in a pine forest where a corroded iron tube sticks out from among the mossy rocks, and from that tube water slowly pours into a tiny stream that would later grow to be our huge river. 3) What I got: a round pool surrounded by a group of statues in the middle of a town. Since the pool is surrounded by a stone fence you cannot get to touch the water. 4) Why I wasn't disappointed anyway: albeit this is in Germany, those who erected the multilingual monument were as kind to design it the way that the Hungarian epigraph would be at the top. I know this is no big deal for them, only a tiny gesture, but for us Hungarians it means a lot. Truly.
  • Beautiful Victorian style serene and meditative place. I adore the circular structure, the magic of the water that are to become a mighty river....
  • Nicely setup spring of a small Creek with the name Donaubach. Advertised as the spring of the Danube although this is hydrologically incorrect.
  • Best place to be, the place wherw the great Danube river has its roots.
  • Very beautiful place, the town is so nice, tidy an clean, with a lot of cafes and restaurants where you can seat outside and enjoy.
