St. George Church, Dinkelsbuhl
Categories: Architectural Buildings, Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Pick a sunny day to climb the 220 steps to the top of St. George Church, which offers sweeping views of the city and the surrounding area. Considered a masterpiece of Gothic architecture from the 15th century, this church is one of the city's main landmarks and a major tourist attraction. Located in the heart of town, the core of the building was constructed sometime in the 1400s, adding on to older structures that already existed in this area. A tall tower was meant to be built at the northern end of the church, but the ambitious plans had to be put aside due to a lack of funding. The church was eventually extended to an old tower already in existence, once a freestanding structure just to the west of the main building.
