  • Beautiful surroundings for hiking! We drove by car to the parking lot near "Naturfreibad Gemündener Maar" from which you can walk to the Dronketurm half an hour. With Google Maps you can easily look up and see how these places you can walk (so you can take another road for the terugwandelen for example). We were there during the Easter holidays (Belgian) and then it was very quiet. I suspect it may be busier during the summer holidays.

  • The circular and sunken deep Maar is worth a visit in the spring, there are numerous hiking trails all around and even up on the edge of the crater. In April, it was at least moderately visited by hikers, mountain bikers and tourists. The large parking can however close to traffic increases in the summer, which is no surprise with outdoor pool in the Lake and boat rental. Not to be missed, you should the great views from the Dronketurm on the South-eastern edge of the crater. The tower is accessible and offers views of the clear Maar almost 360 degree panorama including. At the Tower, there are also plenty of tables and benches, as well as a swing with a direct view of the Maar.
