It was unveiled in the year 1878 in the presence of Emperor Wilhelm I. The monument is considered an affront against the Prussian military State because in the base there are more civilians than military. The monument was destroyed during the second world war. Since 2009, a renovated reconstruction stands on the old site. The monument is worth a visit. In contrast to many other Frémiet, it features a pedestal decorated with many figures.
