St. Ursula, Cologne

4.2
#8 of 17 in Historic Sites in Cologne
Religious Site Historic Site
The home of St. Ursula's legend, the site where St. Ursula is built is said to be the burial spot for the 11,000 virgins in Princess Ursula's entourage who were killed by attacking Huns. The only corroborating evidence for this event is a manuscript that rests in the basilica. The book, along with the alleged relics of the 11,000 virgins and St. Ursula, are housed in the main cathedral. The walls of the Golden Chamber are decorated with relics and bones encased in gold, all of which create shapes and form Latin letters. These bones are thought to belong to the sacred virgins that died along with Ursula.
